Supplier Tooling Engineer - II

Job Summary

Provides support and assistance in the repair and maintenance of tooling used by NAL suppliers for plastic components parts, metal stampings, rubber, aluminum/zinc die cast, fasteners or other materials used at NAL that require specific tooling.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Supplies Purchasing with tooling requirements and quotes for approval
  2. Works with buyer to obtain minimum of three quotes for new tooling requirements
  3. Sets-up and maintains progress and completion charts to meet project build dates
  4. Works with the buyer and Supplier Quality Engineer during start-up of tooling through ISIR approval
  5. Travels to suppliers for on-site follow-up, tool tryouts, and audit of existing tools and maintenance schedules, as required
  6. Oversees engineering changes and tool repairs regarding out-source tools at supplier base
  7. Makes capital expenditure recommendations for tooling replacement and preventative maintenance repair programs
  8. Assists in determining supplier tooling and manufacturing capabilities
  9. Facilitates tooling purchase orders, requisitions, and payment approvals on new tooling and current tool repairs
  10. Maintains supplier tool location tracking list for NAL out-source tools
  11. Performs other duties as assigned

Responsibilites

Requirements

  1. Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a related discipline
  2. 2 to 4 years of experience in mold and die making fabrication
  3. (5 years of experience in Supplier Tooling Engineering within automotive supplier manufacturing, and experience in a JIT manufacturing environment are preferred)
  4. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of materials and compositions
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Technical and mathematical skills
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Computer skills — proficient using business software packages, including MS Office
  • Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
  • Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and to maintain composure in stressful and/or sensitive situations
