Job Summary

Leads, plans, and directs the Supplier Quality Engineering and Technical Services functions for the company.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Manages the Supplier Quality Engineering and Technical Services functions, and provides leadership, guidance, and support for the departmental staff

2. Assigns, manages, and evaluates work of the Supplier Quality Engineering and Technical Services staff

3. Ensures that the Supplier Quality Engineering and Technical Services groups provide timely support on new product launches and all other assigned projects

4. Supplier Quality Engineering:

a. Standardization:

i. Evaluates current components and descriptions of drawings assisting in the development of standard component listing for the Purchasing and Engineering Groups for reference

ii. Consults with the Engineering Design Groups providing knowledge of current standardization in order to include piece price, increased volumes, reduction of inventory, and the reduction in the number of required assigned part numbers to be issued

iii. Makes recommendations to NAL design group regarding possible improvements to component parts that reduce cost, and improve productivity, process capability, and handling

b. Advanced Quality Planning

i. Performs Supplier Quality Systems Surveys

ii. Leads component part design review meetings

iii. Works with Purchasing to gather information, make decisions relevant to product sourcing, and coordinate all localization activities

iv. Performs Supplier process and readiness reviews

v. Reviews and approves ISIR submissions

vi. Supports NAL Design with VA/VE ideas for purchased components & materials

c. Supplier Quality Concerns (SQCs):

i. Performs technical and statistical investigations of purchased parts with quality issues

ii. Provides support to manufacturing for all supplier quality issues by helping to determine root cause and assisting with the development and implementation of effective countermeasures

iii. Provides feedback to suppliers on quality issues that cannot be handled by the Plant Quality Control staff, and assists them with determining the root cause and with the development and implementation of effective countermeasures

iv. Ensures that countermeasures to address all supplier quality issues are implemented, and follows up to evaluate their effectiveness

4. Supplier Quality Engineering (continued):

d. Supplier Support:

i. Supports implementation process of approved VA/VE proposals with NAL supply base

ii. Sets-up programs with NAL supply base to train them in VA/VE with the intended goal of the supply base submitting annual improvements

5. Technical Services:

a. Directs and manages the administration and maintenance of the CAD system, including software/hardware updates, system structure and organization, and general maintenance

b. Oversees the development of standard parts design by CAD Operators

c. Represents the company in meetings with tool shops, suppliers, and vendors

d. Evaluates and determines CAD capability of tool shops, suppliers, and vendors

e. Directs and manages the administration and maintenance of the NAL PDM system, including software/hardware updates, system structure and organization, and general maintenance

f. Oversees and/or performs development of PDM related concepts or plans

g. Oversees and/or performs development of PDM implementation schedules and budgets, and communicate, as necessary

h. Maintains Quality System compliance within the department

6. Provides training, mentoring, and coaching to departmental employees in order to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities

7. Develops and maintains open lines of communications with internal project teams, Koito advisors, and external customers and suppliers related to Supplier Quality Engineering and Technical Services projects

Responsibilites

Requirements

1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline
2. 8 to 10 years of experience in manufacturing, to include 3 years of experience in a supervisory or management position
3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge and understanding of:
i. Quality Analysis and Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques
ii. Material compositions
iii. CAD system administration
iv. Document Control and TS16949 administration
b. Ability to proficiently and accurately:
i. Read and interpret blue prints
ii. Perform metric measurement
iii. Use various gauging tools and electrical test equipment
c. Leadership and mentoring skills
d. Mathematical, analytical and problem solving skills
e. Organizational, planning, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
f. Project management and follow-up skills
g. Computer skills — ability to proficiently use standard business software, including MS Office
h. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
i. Interpersonal skills — ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and to maintain composure in confrontational, sensitive, and pressure situations
