Job Summary

Plans, directs, and administers the overall quality function within the assigned manufacturing facility; including the quality program, policies, processes, and all related personnel.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Plans and directs all quality activities related to both internal and customer issues
2. Reviews quality systems and processes; assesses quality needs; and develops and implements the overall quality system to include methods to:
a. Ensure the effective implementation of engineering standards
b. Ensure the quality of products in production, and new products in development
c. Collect and analyze quality data, and identify defect causes
d. Develop short and long term countermeasures
e. Report quality data and root cause analysis
f. Initiate and follow through on countermeasures
g. Audit and report on the effectiveness of the system
3. Develops and implements the quality systems to address customer quality issues and returns
4. Works closely with customers to resolve quality issues and returns, leads all activities related to the formal response to management and the customer, and serves as lead contact with the customer
5. Ensures that incoming inspection processes eliminate unacceptable parts being sent to production
6. Works with Purchasing to develop and implement processes to resolve vendor quality issues
7. Develops, implements, and maintains testing and performance standards and procedures to determine the product quality level and to permit acceptance of satisfactory products for shipments
8. Performs ongoing reviews of product performance and process data, and makes recommendations concerning product performance
9. Develops, implements, and maintains quality control sampling plans and procedures
10. Coordinates the analysis and reporting on manufacturing, vendor, and field complaints on initial customer samples, and recommends countermeasures to eliminate problems
11. Oversees the testing, analysis, and reporting on prototypes, first shots, and trial runs
12. Manages the inspection, testing, and analysis on new products or design changes, and ensures the completion of the customer/vendor Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIR)
13. Develops, implements, and maintains a program for self-certifying all our products
14. Works closely with individual customers to become an approved lab capable of self-certification, and with AAMVA and AALA to become recognized as an "Automotive Approved Laboratory"
15. Maintains open lines of communications with, and serves as a liaison between corporate staff, plant personnel, customers, and suppliers regarding all quality issues within the plant
16. Ensures that NAL performance standards are attained, so that the quality of the end product from each process and the outgoing product from the plant are maintained and continually improved

17. Plans, organizes, and oversees the efforts of all departmental personnel
18. Conducts and/or arranges for training of departmental personnel in accordance with their overall responsibilities within the quality function at the plant
19. Manages overall departmental budgets and operations within the department per NAL policy
20. Performs all other duties as assigned



1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, or a manufacturing-related discipline
2. 8 to 10 years of experience in quality in a manufacturing environment to include:
a. 2 to 4 years of experience in a quality related field; and
b. 4 years of experience in a lead, supervisory, or management position
(Experience in the quality function with an automotive lighting manufacturer is preferred)
3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge and understanding of the following:
(i) TS16949 Requirements
(ii) 20 Tools of Process Control
(iii) SPC — Statistical Process Control
(iv) GD&T — Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
(v) Impact-Kaizen
(vi) Design of Experiment
(vii) PPAP — Production Part Approval Process (preferred)
(viii) APQP — Advanced Product Quality Planning (preferred)
b. Leadership and coaching skills
c. Organizational and Planning Skills
d. Problem Solving and TS16949 Analytical Skills
e. Computer skills – proficiency using standard business software (including MS Office)
f. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
g. Interpersonal skills — ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and maintain composure in confrontational, sensitive, and pressure situations
