Job Summary

Supervises and coordinates the activities of a team of production engineers who provide engineering and development support in the areas of new launches and processes, equipment, design guidelines, and material performance for new automotive lighting products and future material-related development projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Coordinates and oversees the development of new material and process-related technologies, and makes recommendations to NAL management
2. Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the work of a team of process engineers, and assigns the work- load to best achieve project objectives and required timing
3. Ensures that NAL material, process, and design specifications are established and maintained
4. Assists Production Engineers in the following areas:
a. Analyzing and resolving issues requiring management input
b. Evaluating and improving materials and processes corporate-wide in order to add value by:
i. Lowering material costs
ii. Increasing processing efficiency
iii. Improving product value with customers
iv. Satisfying new customer requirements
c. Maintaining and improving material and process standards by:
i. Maintaining continuous understanding of Koito, customer, industry standard performance specifications
ii. Developing and improving NAL material performance specifications, processing standards, and design standards
d. Developing new materials and processes by:
i. Identifying, evaluating, and qualifying new materials and processes for applicable standards
ii. Providing regular updates to NAL management on development activities
iii. Developing all necessary documentation to implement at NAL
iv. Providing necessary training and implementation support to the plant
e. Providing support to manufacturing by:
i. Providing technical assistance to help resolve quality concerns, increase efficiency, or improve safety
ii. Educating and advising launch teams on material and process capability for product designs
iii. Coordinating material and process characteristics with Design, Tooling, and Equipment Engineering for implementation of new product

f. Coordinating new launch activities to provide on time results within SOP within area of responsibility by:
i. Working with GF (or designee) to collect correct appropriate run data to determine issues, develop root causes and obtain counter measures to meet goals
ii. Scheduling trials to meet deadlines (M trials & pre HVPT) to meet goals and targets
iii. Assisting other departments as needed to coordinate efforts to meet goals & targets
iv. Conducting new launch step audits
5. Performs all other duties as assigned



1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Material Science, or a related technical discipline
2. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred
3. 6 to 8 years of experience in a process related position in the areas of material selection, testing, implementation, and process, including 2 years of experience in a lead, supervisory, or management role
4. Experience in an engineering function within an automotive or a process-related industry is preferred
5. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge and understanding of the following:
i. Manufacturing standards — such as Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and/or American Standard Technical Methods (ASTM)
ii. Manufacturing techniques and philosophies
iii. 20 Tools of Process Control
iv. SPC — Statistical Process Control
v. APQP — Advanced Product Quality Planning
b. Analytical and problem solving skills
c. Organizational, planning, and project management skills
d. Leadership and coaching skills
e. Computer skills — proficient in using standard business software, including MS Office and Project
f. Technical writing and presentation skills
g. Written and verbal communications skills
h. Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and to maintain composure in stressful and/or sensitive situations (internally and outside of the company)
