Process Engineer - Sr - Adhesives

Job Summary

Provides engineering support to the assembly adhesive application processes to include: the analysis, development, planning, and execution of improvements. Validates adhesive to substrate combinations. Supports development and validation of new adhesive materials.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Analyzes product and/or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced using existing assembly equipment and processes
2. Serves as technical liaison for customers and suppliers regarding adhesive processes and materials
3. Educates and advises launch teams of adhesive material capability for product designs
4. Assists in the development, design, testing, and installation of adhesive application systems and processes
5. Provides technical assistance to Equipment Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality Engineering, and Manufacturing to help resolve quality concerns, increase productivity, and improve safety
6. Provides training regarding new materials and processes
7. Assists in the development of Preventive Maintenance plans and process standards for specific adhesive related equipment
8. Assists in identifying and evaluating new technologies to meet adhesive needs
9. Assists Design and Development groups in selecting processes for introduction into new programs
10. Interacts and works jointly with Design and Development Engineers regarding the introduction of new materials and processes into lamp programs
11. Develops, issues, and maintains NAL specification for specific materials and their related processes
12. Identifies Value Engineering/Value Analysis ideas to be implemented into new product processes
13. Supports and coaches process engineers in problem solving and material sciences
14. Coordinates the implementation of processes, materials, and technologies with Koito and its affiliates
15. Performs other duties as assigned



1. BS in chemical engineering or a related engineering discipline
2. 4 to 6 years of engineering experience in a process related position, to include 2 to 4 years of experience with adhesives – including specifications, formulations, testing, and application methods.
(engineering experience in automotive parts manufacturing is preferred)
3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
i. Knowledge of standards, such as Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and/or American Standard Technical Methods (ASTM)
ii. Analytical and problem-solving skills
iii. Technical writing and presentation skills
iv. Organizational, planning, and project management skills
v. Computer skills – proficient in using standard business software (including Microsoft Office and Project)
vi. Written and verbal communications skills
vii. Leadership and coaching skills
viii. Interpersonal skills —ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority (internally and outside of the company)
