Manufacturing Engineering - Supervisor

Job Summary

Supervises and coordinates the activities and personnel of the Manufacturing Engineering department, which includes support for new launch development and day-to-day technical issues for the assembly process in the plant with a focus on scrap and downtime reduction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of the manufacturing engineers and manufacturing engineering technicians
2. Provides leadership and guidance within the department for the support of new product launch teams
3. Coordinates the timely input of the BOM/routings, and helps to ensure that production rates and machine cycle times are available for input for all new products per the established project plan
4. Assists in planning for adequate floor space for assembly line location, storage, and work-in-process (WIP), as well as in the preparation of materials/product flow plans
5. Assists in the preparation of Process Failure Mode and Effect Analyses (PFMEA), Process Design Sheets, Process Flow Diagrams, and other Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities
6. Coordinates and/or participates in all continuous improvement activities within area of responsibility, and ensures participation of direct reports these activities, as needed
7. Assists in the management of the department, as well as in the development of annual departmental goals, headcount, and budgets
8. Supports and overseas department KPIs as established by management, and makes recommendations concerning scrap and downtime reduction in order to help meet the KPI goals
9. Evaluates departmental training needs, schedules employees for training, and/or conducts the training of manufacturing engineers and manufacturing engineering technicians in accordance with their overall responsibilities within the department
10. Stays current with the latest manufacturing processes, techniques, and technologies
11. Performs all other duties as assigned


1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a technical discipline
2. 6 to 8 years of experience in manufacturing environment to include:

a. 2 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering; and
b. 2 years of experience in a lead, supervisory, or management position
c. Experience in an engineering function with an automotive lighting manufacturer is preferred
3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge and understanding of the following:
i. Manufacturing techniques and philosophies
ii. 20 Tools of Process Control
iii. SPC — Statistical Process Control
iv. APQP — Advanced Product Quality Planning
b. Leadership and coaching skills
c. Project management skills
d. Organizational and planning Skills
e. Problem Solving and analytical Skills
f. Computer skills – proficiency using standard business software (including MS Office)
g. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
h. Interpersonal skills — the ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and
maintain composure in pressure situations (internally and outside of the company)
