Job Summary

Plans and directs the manufacturing engineering function; and provides technical support to other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, or staff functions within his or her assigned manufacturing

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Plans and directs all manufacturing engineering activities and personnel within the plant
2. Ensures proper and effective support of new product launches by the manufacturing engineering department staff
3. Oversees the on-time input of the BOM/routings, and ensures that production rates and machine cycle times are available for input for all new products per the established project plan
4. Helps to develop plant layouts and materials/product flow plans via internal and/or external sources
5. Assists in the preparation of Process Failure Mode and Effect Analyses (PFMEA), Process Design Sheets, Process Flow Diagrams, and other Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities
6. Leads and/or participates in all continuous improvement activities within area of responsibility, and ensures participation of direct reports these activities, as needed
7. Evaluates departmental training needs, schedules employees for training, and ensures their attendance of both local and outside seminars, as required
8. Develops annual department goals in support of NAL's stated corporate goals, and reviews and follows-up on the status of achieving these goals
9. Ensures the on-time delivery of all equipment necessary to support new product launches
10. Maintains open lines of communications with, and serves as a liaison between corporate staff, plant personnel, customers, and suppliers regarding new product launches and production issues
11. Manages overall departmental budgets and operations within the department per NAL policy
12. Performs all other duties as assigned



13. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline (MBA or MS in Engineering is preferred)
1. 8 to 10 years of experience in manufacturing environment to include
a. 2 to 4 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering; and
b. 4 years of experience in a lead, supervisory, or management position
(Experience in an engineering function with an automotive lighting manufacturer is preferred)

2. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge and understanding of the following:
i. Manufacturing techniques and philosophies
ii. 20 Tools of Process Control
iii. SPC — Statistical Process Control
iv. APQP — Advanced Product Quality Planning
b. Leadership and coaching skills
c. Project management skills
d. Organizational and planning Skills
e. Problem Solving and analytical Skills
f. Computer skills – proficiency using standard business software (including MS Office)
g. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
h. Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority
