Job Summary

Performs dimensional analysis of lighting products in accordance with established procedures, measures outcomes, evaluates data, performs failure analysis, and provides routine troubleshooting support and maintenance for all dimensional devices and equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Performs dimensional analysis of components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies to NAL blueprints, customer blueprints, and/or sketches per established company, customer, industry, and regulatory standards and guidelines
2. Performs dimensional verification, certification, fixturing, and gauging to the gage/fixture blueprint to assure dimensional accuracy and proper documentation
3. Maintains the verification/certification record system
4. Performs and maintains calibration on all dimensional equipment to assure conformity and compliance to NIST Standards
5. Performs Gauge R&R studies (both short and long form) on new and/or existing fixtures and gauges to assure error due to fixtures or gages is kept at or below individual customer requirements
6. Performs dimensional analysis of components, sub-assemblies, and/or assemblies to provide information to troubleshoot and correct deficiencies
7. Performs dimensional analysis of components, sub-assemblies, and/or assemblies to provide information to appropriate departments
8. Performs 30/50/100 piece product capability studies to determine potential of the process or parts, and provides data to local and corporate quality
9. Attends customer trial to assure “gauge to part” fit correlates to “car to part” fit
10. Reviews and evaluates the results of testing and studies to ensure completeness and accuracy
11. Works in conjunction with QC and Production personnel in achieving the overall team objective
12. Performs all other duties as assigned



1. Meets one of the following Education and Experience requirements:
a. High School Diploma or GED, plus 4 to 6 years of experience in a related position; OR
b. Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline, plus 2 to 4 years of experience in a related position

2. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Working knowledge of dimensional test equipment, including the following:
i. Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
ii. Optical comparator
iii. Hand held equipment includes:
● Calipers
● Micrometers
● Depth Gauges
● Pin Gauges
● Digital Indicator
● Height Gages
● Levelness Gages
● Component/sub-assembly/assembly gauging
b. Knowledge and understanding of Statistical Process Control (preferred)
c. Ability to interpret and follow specifications
d. Technical and mechanical skills
e. Analysis and problem solving skills
f. Computer skills — proficiency using standard business software (including MS Office)
g. Written and verbal communications skills
h. Interpersonal skills — ability to work in a team environment, and confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority
