Job Summary

Knows and applies a variety of safety concepts, practices, and procedures. Performs tasks that are varied and complex in nature. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals that require a wide degree of evaluation, creativity, latitude, and independent judgment. May lead or direct the work of others. Leads, oversees, and administers safety programs and activities that provide for the overall safety of employees in his/her assigned manufacturing facility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Ensures the facility meets all requirements of corporate, local, state and federal safety regulations.
2. Administers facility safety events, evaluations, program deployment, and other related activities in order to drive a reduction in work-related injuries.
3. Performs facility safety inspections to identify actual and/or potential hazardous work conditions.
4. Analyzes safety issues, works with department leaders on corrective actions, and following up on the implementation and effectiveness of the corrective actions.
5. Conducts safety training (technical, management, and process) for all levels of facility employees based on specific needs and requirements. Training may include safety strategies and goals, technical safety and program information, injury trend data, safety/regulatory information.
6. Reviews all accident/incident reports at the facility, and evaluates the root cause and countermeasures to determine for all accidents/incidents and illnesses reported in the facility.
7. Evaluates new and existing facility equipment and workstations with regard to safety and ergonomic issues and improvements.
8. Develops countermeasures to ergonomic issues, and follows up to ensure that they are implemented on a timely basis and effective in addressing the issue.
9. Maintains safety records and other related documentation for his/her assigned manufacturing facility.
10. Compiles safety statistics for his/her facility for presentation at local and corporate safety meetings.
11. Develops and supports safety policies and procedures.
12. Support operations groups to integrate safety into the day-to-day work activities and maintain a positive safety culture in the facility.
13. Keeps management abreast of current safety performance, potential hazards, serious incidents, and changes to guidelines affecting safety policies and procedures.
14. Drives health and safety by motivating employees to promote awareness and provide leadership on issues of health and safety.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilites

Requirements

1. Bachelor Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or a related discipline
2. 4 to 6 years of experience in the safety function in a manufacturing environment

3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and other federal, state, or local regulations/standards
b. Ability to positively influence and informally lead other parts of the organization
c. Analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills (with attention to detail)
d. Organizational, planning, and delegation skills
e. Computer skills — proficiency using standard business software (including MS Office)
f. Ability to maintain confidential information
g. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
h. Leadership and coaching skills
i. Interpersonal skills — the ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and maintain composure in sensitive, pressure, and confrontational situations
4. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
5. Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
