Equipment Design Engineer - II

Job Summary

Designs and develops assembly tooling that will be built at local tool shops or in-house, and assists Equipment Engineers from a design standpoint.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Designs and develops assembly equipment fixtures and tooling
2. Maintains the standard equipment design manual to be referenced in all Requests for Quotes
3. Maintains the standard work-cell designs
4. Maintains project timelines for each design
5. Works with equipment engineers and vendors to implement, build, and set-up equipment to be designed in-house
6. Maintains a detailed time log to capture the number of hours required for in-house tooling design
7. Tracks projects and updates Equipment Project Report, on a weekly basis, for all tooling
8. Works with equipment engineers to ensure proper design for ease of maintenance and workability
9. Provides training and support to equipment engineers for newly implemented equipment designs
10. Provides technical support for continuous improvement of production equipment and processes
11. Works with outside vendors on how to properly utilize/size purchased items
12. Performs other duties as assigned



13. Education and Experience ― Must meet one of the following:
a. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering , Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline, plus 2 to 4 years of related manufacturing experience; OR
b. Associate’s Degree in Engineering , Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline, plus 4 to 6 years of related manufacturing experience
14. Additional Experience ― Design experience with 3D Solidworks or equivalent 3D software package
15. Experience in the following areas is preferred:
a. Experience in equipment design engineering in automotive supplier manufacturing
b. Experience in a JIT manufacturing environment (Experience with Surfcam or other CAD/CAM software. is preferred)

16. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical aptitude
b. Analytical and problem solving skills
c. Organizational and planning skills
d. Computer skills — proficiency using standard business software (including MS Office)
e. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
f. Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and maintain professional demeanor in stressful or sensitive situations
