Job Summary

Sets up CNC Vertical Machining Center, creates standard programs, and machines required components for assembly equipment and fixtures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Works with Equipment Engineering and Equipment Design Engineering to understand machining requirements for equipment and fixture components
2. Reviews solid model design, imports requirement data into CAD/CAM software, and creates machining program with correct tooling and feed-rates
3. Runs simulation software to verify machining program
4. Sets-up automatic tool-changer to include all required tools for all machining
5. Sets-up clamping system on machine for parts being machined
6. Calibrates multiple part locations to machining center
7. Maintains a detailed time log to capture the actual number of hours required to create machining programs and to perform the machining
8. Maintains CNC tooling inventory
9. Schedules machining center preventative maintenance
10. Creates standard roughing and finish programs to be utilized on all machining of nesting in order to reduce setup time
11. Performs conventional machining, including:
a. Lathe work – turning, drilling, threading
b. Mill work
c. Surface grinding
d. Welding – steel and aluminum
e. Drilling
f. Tapping/Threading
12. Performs conventional machining of details and assembly of tooling
13. Stays current with latest machining hardware and software improvements/upgrades
14. Provides technical support for continuous improvement of equipment and processes
15. Performs all other duties as assigned



16. Meets one of the following education and experience requirements:
a. Associate’s Degree in a technical discipline, plus 4 to 6 years of conventional machining and CNC machining center experience; OR
b. High School Diploma or GED, plus 6 to 8 years of conventional machining and CNC machining center experience
(Experience with 3D machining and machining software knowledge is preferred)
17. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Understanding of the requirements for NAL equipment and the ability to produce such equipment
b. Ability to read, understand, and build details from component prints
c. Mechanical aptitude and skills
d. Organizational and planning skills
e. Communications and interpersonal skills
