Job Summary

Plans and performs design validation testing on automotive lighting products to determine if the lamps meet customer and regulatory agency requirements. Using the test data, interprets the results, reports on findings, and recommends any needed engineering changes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Operates and maintains testing equipment in the Engineering Analysis department
2. Sets up and executes tests related to photometrics, electronic devices, materials, and/or coatings for automotive lighting products
3. Compiles and summarizes test data, analyzes and interprets test results, and writes reports that include conclusions and recommendations
4. Provides theoretical explanations for physical failure modes
5. Performs root cause analysis and develops screening tests for warranty issues
6. Conducts engineering research and development for advancement of simulation capability
7. Acts as liaison between Engineering Analysis and product design teams
8. Writes and updates design standards related to the physical aspects of automotive lamps
9. Assists design and development engineers in the design and physical analysis of automotive lighting systems, lighting components, and light sources
10. Investigates and evaluates new products or techniques for improving performance of automotive lighting products
11. Performs all other duties as assigned



1. Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
2. 2 to 4 years of experience in engineering laboratory work and/or product development ― to include experience in lab set up, physical science testing (thermal, vibration, EMI, humidity, and/or gas flow), and testing methodology (Experience in electronic device and plastics product testing in automotive lighting is preferred)

3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge and understanding of testing methods and government requirements for automotive lighting designs, the physical principles of automotive lighting design, and the materials used in the design and manufacture of automotive lighting products
b. Ability to operate engineering lab test equipment, plus related software and hardware
c. Data acquisition, data analysis, and problem solving skills
d. Organizational and planning skills
e. Computer skills using standard business software (including MS Office programs)
f. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
g. Interpersonal skills ― ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and maintain composure in stressful, confrontational, and/or sensitive situations
