Job Summary

Provides engineering, design, and development support for new product launches and development projects pertaining to the optics in exterior automotive lighting products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provides optical design and development expertise for timely support on new projects of moderate size and complexity, implementation of new technologies, and all other assigned projects
2. Provides optical design related guidance and technical advice to project engineers and designers for new product development and production projects
3. Designs and conducts tests, lab set up, data acquisition, data analysis, and other evaluations for prototype and pre-production hardware
4. Recommends and implements design changes to production products per prototype testing
results
5. Researches and develops design solutions to automotive lighting engineering issues
6. Generates new concepts for improving optical design capabilities
7. Conducts feasibility studies and engineering analyses for the new concepts
8. Assists the development of new techniques or methodologies for new products with new light sources, new manufacturing techniques, and/or other new technologies
9. Maintains open lines of communications with internal project teams and external customers and suppliers related to assigned projects
10. Performs all other duties as assigned

Responsibilites

Requirements

1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with courses in optics, mechanical engineering, and physics plus 0 - 2 years of experience in optical design and/or photometry
2. Experience in lab set up and testing methods
Experience in optical design and development within automotive parts manufacturing is preferred
3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge of testing methods and government requirements for automotive designs
b. Data analysis and problem solving skills
c. Organizational and planning skills
d. Computer skills using standard business software (including MS Office programs)
e. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
f. Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority
