Job Summary

Provides engineering, design, and development support for new product launches and development projects pertaining to electronics in exterior automotive lighting products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provides electronics design and development expertise for timely support on new product launches, implementation of new technologies, and all other assigned projects
2. Conduct tests and other evaluations for prototype and pre-prototype hardware
3. Recommends and implements design changes to production products per prototype testing results
4. Creates DFMEA, DVP&R, wiring schematics, specifications, technical reports, and component selection related to assigned projects per customer requirements and company standards
5. Generates new concepts for technical solutions related to assigned projects
6. Conducts feasibility studies and engineering analyses for the new concepts
7. Creates preliminary sketches, schematics, and technical models for new design concepts
8. Leads the development of new techniques or methodologies for new products with new light sources, new manufacturing techniques, and/or other new technologies
9. Obtains cost estimates on the technologies related to assigned projects
10. Maintains open lines of communications with internal project teams and external customers and suppliers related to assigned projects
11. Mentors junior electronics engineers to raise skill level of the Electronics Development Department
12. Performs all other duties as assigned



1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
Master’s Degree is preferred
2. 5 or more years of experience in electronic technology development
Experience in electronics development within automotive parts manufacturing is preferred
3. Experience with design and implementation of complex electronics systems
4. Experience as senior or lead engineer for electrical automotive projects
5. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge of circuit design and schematic creation process
b. Understanding of manufacturing restrictions and their effect on new technologies
c. Data analysis and problem solving skills
d. Organizational and planning skills
e. Computer skills using LabView or MatLab, PSpice, and ProTel
f. Computer skills using standard business software (including MS Office programs)
g. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
h. Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority
