Job Summary

Supervises and coordinates all of the activities and personnel of the Electronics Development department, which includes the review and evaluation of the progress of the lighting programs and development projects performed by the engineers and technicians within the department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assigns work, supervises, and evaluates work of other engineers within the department
2. Assigns and oversees work of assigned engineers and technicians
3. Provides leadership and guidance to other engineers within the department
4. Oversees feasibility studies and engineering analysis of other engineers within the department for new concepts related to the projects
5. Oversees tests and other evaluations for prototype and pre-prototype hardware performed by the other engineers within the department
6. Performs feasibility studies, engineering analysis, tests, and evaluations, as needed
7. Assigns and oversees the writing of technical reports and specifications related to projects and testing, and reviews them for accuracy
8. Assigns and oversees the creation of preliminary sketches, schematics, and supports creation of technical models for new design concepts by the other engineers in the department
9. Provides expertise to other engineers for them to generate new concepts for technical solutions related to assigned projects, and assists the other engineers in this function, as needed
10. Provides departmental leadership for the support of production launch teams on the implementation of new technologies
11. Recommends design changes based upon results of prototype and pre-prototype testing
12. Interfaces with suppliers and customers both internal and external for technologies related to assigned projects
13. Performs engineering research and development, and recommends laboratory equipment and usage for current and new projects
14. Performs other duties as assigned

Responsibilites

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline (Master’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is preferred)

2. 6 to 8 years of experience in an electronic engineering and/or technology development related position, to include at least two years in a senior or lead role; and experience in lab set up, data acquisition, and data analysis (Electronic technology development experience in automotive parts manufacturing is preferred)
3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge and understanding of testing methods, and government requirements for several different types of automotive designs and different automotive markets
b. Knowledge and understanding of Standards — such as Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and/or American Standard Technical Methods (ASTM)
c. Analytical and problem solving skills
d. Technical writing and presentation skills
e. Organizational, planning, and project management skills
f. Computer skills — proficient in using standard business software (including MS Office and Excel)
g. Written and verbal communications skills
h. Leadership and coaching skills
i. Interpersonal skills — the ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and maintain composure in pressure situations (internally and outside of the company)
