Job Summary

Designs thermoplastic/thermoset injection molds to be built at local tool shops or in-house, and to assist Tooling Engineers with regard to design issues.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Designs complex thermoplastic/thermoset injection molds (with special features) to produce automotive lighting parts in accordance with company manufacturing standards and customer product requirements
  2. Assists in the selection of the design software and computer workstation for mold design purposes
  3. Assists in the creation and maintenance of the thermoplastic/thermoset injection mold design standards as well as the mold design standard manual
  4. Works  closely  with  Tool  Engineers  and  the  tool  room  staff  to  ensure  proper  design  for  ease  of maintenance and workability
  5. Provides technical support and training to Tooling Engineers for new mold designs implemented into production
  6. Provides technical support for continuous improvement of injection mold development
  7. Stays current with latest design software improvements and upgrades
  8. Performs other duties as assigned

Responsibilites

Requirements

1. Must meet one of the following Education and Experience requirements:
a. Bachelor’s Degree in Tool and Manufacturing Technology or a related discipline, plus 2 to 4 years of manufacturing experience in Thermoplastic/Thermoset injection mold design; OR
a. Associate’s Degree in Tool and Manufacturing Technology or a related discipline, plus 4 to 6 years of manufacturing experience in Thermoplastic/Thermoset injection mold design; OR
b. High School Diploma or GED, plus 6 to 8 years of manufacturing experience in Thermoplastic/ Thermoset injection mold design
c. (experience in automotive lighting and in a JIT manufacturing environment is preferred)
2. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Analytical and problem solving skills
b. Organizational and planning skills
c. Computer skills in standard business software (including MS Office programs)
d. Thermoplastic/Thermoset injection mold design skills using CAD/CAM software
e. Written and verbal communications skills
f. Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority
