Machining - Supervisor

Job Summary

Working supervisor who oversees and coordinates the work of the CNC Programmers/Machinists, reviews the solid model designs, helps develop the job plans, verifies the accuracy of the CNC models from design, and tracks the machine efficiencies and up time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Oversees and directs the work of the CNC Programmers/Machinists
2. Works with the Scheduler and the Tool Shop Foreman to develop plans for which tools are to be machined, and in what order they are scheduled
3. Works with the Scheduler to develop schedule for each machine
4. Develops sequences to create roughing and finishing machine paths
5. Develops sequences for electrodes
6. Works with scheduling to ensure the next piece going on the machine is ready
7. Develops procedures to inspect blocks while on the CNC machine
8. Verifies that everything being machined is being cut to the latest data
9. Stays current with new developments in machining
10. Maintains CNC tooling inventory
11. Works with CNC machinists to ensure cleanliness and 6S
12. Oversees the budget for the CNC machining department
13. Performs other duties as assigned

Responsibilites

Requirements

1. Must meet one of the following Education and Experience requirements:
a. Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline, plus 4 to 6 years of experience in CNC programming and operation ― including 2 years in a lead or supervisory role; OR
b. Associate’s Degree in a related technical discipline, plus 6 to 8 years of experience in CNC programming and operation ― including 2 years in a lead or supervisory role; OR
c. High School Diploma or GED, plus 8 to 10 years of experience in CNC programming and operation ― including 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
d. (experience in automotive lighting and in a JIT manufacturing environment is preferred)
2. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Ability to read and work off of blueprints and tool drawings
b. Analytical and problem solving skills
c. Leadership and coaching skills
d. Organizational and planning skills
e. CNC programming skills
f. Computer skills – proficient in basic business software (including MS Office)
g. Written and verbal communications skills
h. Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority
i. (2D & 3D programming skills using WorkNC are preferred)
j. (Working knowledge of Makino and Mazak CNC equipment is preferred)
