Job Summary

Plans, directs, and manages the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Accounting functions within the Corporate Accounting department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Manages the company’s accounting functions to ensure the accurate and timely recording of its financial transactions in accordance with company policies, GAAP guidelines, and IRS regulations
2. Ensures that all monthly and year-end closings are completed on an accurate and timely basis
3. Monitors and analyzes the work of the departmental staff to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
4. Manages the controls for accounting procedures and systems
5. Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to the company’s internal accounting policies, processes, and procedures, ensuring that they are in line with the overall goals of the organization
6. Reviews general ledger account reconciliations and analyses to ensure that they are complete and accurate for all accounts
7. Oversees the preparation of all required tax returns, and reviews all applicable tax packages for accuracy before they are filed
8. Leads and/or assists in resolving accounting issues with the general ledger accounts, as required
9. Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
10. Works with the accounting management to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
11. Coordinates the annual year-end audit with the company’s outside accountants
12. Develops and communicates departmental goals and objectives to the staff
13. Handles personnel issues, such as staff conflicts, absenteeism, and performance
14. Identifies, conducts, and/or arranges for training and development for new and existing employees
15. Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline
2. 8 to 10 years of experience in accounting or a related field; including 3 years of experience in a supervisory position

3. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
a. Knowledge and understanding of GAAP terms, concepts, principals, and procedures, and how they are applied in a business environment
b. Analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills (with attention to detail)
c. Organizational and planning skills
d. Computer skills — proficiency using standard business and accounting software packages, including MS Word, Excel, and Access
e. Leadership and coaching skills
f. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
g. Interpersonal skills — to professionally and confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority while maintaining composure in confrontational, sensitive, and pressure situations
